I Dimmed First

Every time you were near,
I dimmed my light
So others could see you shine.

Day after day,
time after time,
I watched you glow.

Look how you shine—
brighter than the sun.

It’s funny how__
How you didn’t think twice
before burning me with that light.

Now I can’t even recall
what it feels like to shine,
Which was once...solely mine.
